Daily Devotional: February 14 – Let Go

Listen, O daughter, consider and incline your ear; forget your own people also, and your father’s house – Psalm 45:10

Why would God ever want you to forget your own people and your fathers house? It sounds strange, doesn’t it? But consider that you will not find a place in the bible where people are referred to as God’s grandchildren but only as God’s children. If we are God’s children, then it means that He is our parent. What about our earthly parents? They are simply stewards or guardians. As a true and loving parent, God desires to parent us. He wants us to humble ourselves and be like little children who hang on every word of their earthy moms and dads. When we incline our ears to take his instruction is when we live an abundant life of peace and joy. No matter the cost, it is always better to incline our ears to God and forget what we think we know from our culture (people) and our family norms (father’s house), – especially when what we have learned from our people, history, and culture is not aligned with God. Is it going to be easy? No! Are people going to misunderstand your intentions? Yes! Choose to let go regardless and you will experience the beauty of living as a child of God.

God is my eternal parent; my earthly parents are my temporary stewards
