My mouth shall speak wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall give understanding – Psalm 49:3
Quoting the bible is one thing but understanding the bible is another thing. Many people are frustrated because they do not get much from their bible reading or because their understanding is shallow. This does not have to be your plight. The secret to gaining understanding is meditation. To meditate is to mull over what you have read in your mind again and again. As you meditate on every aspect of what you have read with an open heart, God starts to give you understanding. Don’t just read the bible, study it. And don’t just study the bible, meditate on what you have studied. It is the meditation of the heart that gives understanding. Once God has given you understanding by illuminating the meaning of His words in your heart, you can apply His words correctly in the right time and in the right situation. This is wisdom. There is no understanding without wisdom. In all your pursuit, may you pursue understanding through meditation, and may your words and walk reflect wisdom.
It is better that I meditate on the little I know than study a lot without gaining understanding
