Daily Devotional: March 15 – Deceptive Words

They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly – Psalm 62:4

The ordinary person has no idea what is in the heart of another man. But we are not ordinary people. We have the spirit of God living in us, and He is very much aware of what is in the heart of man. The Holy Spirit is able to reveal those secret things to us, so that we do not run afoul of smooth-talking lying words. The bible reveals this as the gift of discernment. This gift not only works to discern what is happening in a situation and what to do but also discerns the unspoken motives in the heart of people. How can you improve your discernment? Well, the bible tells us that the word of God is living and powerful and is a discerner of the thought and intent of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). Therefore, the simplest way is to immerse yourself in the word of God. As people speak, the Holy Spirit will help you recollect the word of God that is applicable to your specific situation. If the words of the mouth of the people do not align with the word of the Lord, it is, at a minimum, a sign that you should thread very carefully.

When I listen to people, I will listen to what the Spirit is telling me about what they are saying
