Daily Devotional: March 17 – Trusting Money

If riches increase, do not set your heart on them – Psalm 62:10

A strange thing happens as riches increase. It becomes easier to start to trust in riches and take our attention off God; it becomes easier to start believing that we are invincible. The moment we set our heart on money; it begins to rule our lives. Suddenly, the spirit of mammon takes over and we find that our moral compass and values start to shift – perhaps because money can assuage or eliminate the consequences of many decisions that we make. Still, God is not mocked, and riches make for a terrible god. God is the one who empowers us to get riches in order to establish His covenant on the earth (Deuteronomy 8:18). Therefore, the riches that God allows us to get is not only for us but also meant to serve His purpose. When we set our heart on money is when our heart becomes corrupted away from God’s purpose. When you focus your heart on the purpose of God, then money takes it rightful place as a tool to further the will of God on the earth.

I will not put money before God
