Daily Devotional: October 19 – Ready for War

Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle – Psalm 144:1

The biblical story of the man called Job lets us know that we don’t have to go looking for war before a war comes our way. The reality of the spiritual world is that the enemy of your soul is always looking for a reason and an avenue to war with you. He studies you and looks for any weakness you have! When he attacks, you can either let him push you around and mess with your beliefs, your thoughts, and emotion or you can fight him off. You need to know how to ‘handle’ the enemy. Every scriptural answer you give him is like a jab; every word of truth you use to counter his accusations is like a slap on his face. You need to be armed and ready with the word of truth. In the scripture, hands represent action while feet represent direction. The right action when the enemy attacks is to seek the word of God and to seek the direction of wise godly counsel.

War will come whether I like it or not, so I might as well be prepared

Daily Devotional: October 18 – Stand Firm

For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me dwell in darkness, like those who have long been dead – Psalm 143:4

Move a plant away from the light and it will shrivel up and die. Move away from God (who is light) and you begin to perish. The longer we spend away from God, the more we die inside – life becomes meaningless and worthless; we start to live in confusion and spend our time doing purposeless things; we immerse ourselves in work and fill our time with things that start to control us as we become addicted to them. Things such as having more success or making more money do not satisfy without God. When we shift away from God, our lives shift out of God’s control. As our lives shift out of His control, it moves into the enemy’s control, and a life in the enemy’s control is a life out of control! The enemy’s attack on your life is a bait to get you to shift away from God. Do not let him get that satisfaction. He may attack but he has no victory! You shall overcome as you keep strong in the Lord and the power of His might.

I will not let the troubles of life hinder my relationship with God

Daily Devotional: August 6 – Living a Lie

Remove from me the way of lying, and grant me Your law graciously – Psalm 119:29

We can either believe in the truth or believe in a lie. The truth comes from the Holy Spirit, but lies come from the father of lies, the devil. The way of lies represents false ways that promise life and prosperity but only deliver death and poverty. The way of lies represents anything that we believe and act upon that is divorced from the truth of God. As imperfect beings, we all have ways in which we act that is not according to the truth of God. We need to pray to God to help us identify the lies that we have believed and then remove from us the way of lying. Of all the lies that we tell, we lie to ourselves the most. So, let me ask you – are you living a lie? Have you substituted the truth that sets you free for the lie that puts you in bondage? Take an inventory of your life today to see which areas are just not working out. Those areas represent areas where the lies of the enemies have infiltrated your life. Recommit yourself to the truth of God today in those areas and stop living a life.

I will study God’s principles so that I can identify the false beliefs I hold
