Daily Devotional: August 27 – Mercy Candidate

Look upon me and be merciful to me, as Your custom is toward those who love Your name – Psalm 119:132

In medieval times, kings sent messages by messengers who delivered the words and will of the king. These messengers would mention that they came in the name of the king, thereby alerting people that their presence was according to the will of the king and that their words carried power and authority. Therefore, we see that the name and will of the king go hand in hand. God told Moses that His name is I AM. That means He is freedom, peace, love, joy, prosperity, so on and so forth. Since His name and His will are linked, that means His will is to be these benefits for us and to give them to us. According to the Psalmist, one of these benefits is mercy. This is not to say that God is not merciful to those who do not love His will – He is merciful to whom He chooses to be merciful. What it tells us is that it is customary for Him to be merciful towards those who love his will. Friend, since you love His name, God will show you mercy.

An abundance of mercy is reserved for me
