Daily Devotional: September 12 – Dream On

When the Lord brought back the captivity of Zion, we were like those who dream – Psalm 126:1

How wonderful it is when magical moments happen to us. How wonderful when awesome things that we can scarcely believe happen to us – we just do not want the feeling to end. But alas, feelings fade and what was once dreamy becomes normal. The tingling you felt on your wedding day disappears. The feeling of driving a brand-new car dissipates. The rush of being promoted at work ends. After the dreamy feelings end, reality comes. Friend, the reality is that it takes work to perpetuate a dream. Going back to today’s verse, consider that those who returned from captivity had to do the hard work of rebuilding the wall and rebuilding their lives. Just like them, we too must work to ensure that our dream – no matter what it is – does not turn into a nightmare. Don’t just sit back and relax thinking you have made it. Such an attitude has led to the demise of businesses or relationships that started with much promise. Are you doing the work that is required to keep your dream a dream?

To live my dream requires that I do not sleep on my responsibilities
