Daily Devotional: August 31- Cherry-Picking

The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever – Psalm 119:160

If we abide in God’s word, we will know the truth and the truth will set us free (John 8:31-32). To abide is to have his word be settled in our hearts and to continue in His words. Now, we are not to abide in some of the His words but all His words. This means that we do not get to cherry-pick which words we want to concentrate on and which we neglect. We just can’t go to our favorite scriptures and expect to live in freedom. All the council of the word of God when taken together is what reveals the truth that sets us free. When was the last time you opened up some of the less popular books of the bible? Do you even know that the Book of Obadiah exists? Only by searching the entirety of the word will you find the patterns that can change your life. You will be shocked at the treasures that are hidden in some of these less-known authors.

I will find the patterns that exist in God’s word so that I can be set free

Daily Devotional: August 30- Lemons to Lemondade

Trouble and anguish have overtaken me, yet Your commandments are my delights – Psalm 119:143

In times of trouble and anguish, you can go to the word of God for relief. You can recall His promises to you knowing that He is faithful and true. You can rest knowing that His thoughts towards you are to give you a future and an expected end. When you delight in His words, whatever trouble is happening on the outside does not have to dominate you on the inside. While following His commandments does not mean that the cause of your trouble and anguish will disappear overnight, it does put you on a path that will put an end to both. Friend, whatever is happening to you and around you does not have to roil your inner being. When life gives us lemons, the commandment (instruction) of God is sugar that turns the lemons into lemonade. You just have to give it time!

Life lemons turn into lemonade as I focus on God’s instructions
