Daily Devotional: August 23 – Wiser Than Ever

You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies; for they are ever with me – Psalm 119:98

The Book of James tells us to ask God for wisdom as we patiently wait for His deliverance in times of trials and tribulation. In this passage, we see that we can become wiser by paying attention to statues and principles found in the word of God. When we combine this passage with what we find in the book of James, we see that wisdom comes by cultivating the habit of reading, asking, and listening. Specifically, becoming wiser is all about reading the word of God, asking God in prayer, and then listening for His instructions. In other words, wisdom is a natural outcome of developing the daily discipline of having our quiet time with God and humbling ourselves before Him. If we are not getting any wiser, it is because something is off in one of the three areas of reading, asking, or listening. Don’t just read, ask as you read. Don’t just ask but listen. And when you hear, follow what He is prompting you to do. Do these and your enemy won’t stand a chance!

Spending quality time with God makes me wiser beyond my years

Daily Devotional: August 22 – Word or Worry

Oh, how I love Your law! It is my meditation all the day – Psalm 119:97

As we go about our day, we can either choose to meditate on our worries or choose to meditate on God’s words. Our worries bring fear and anxiety, but His words bring hope and peace. Our worrying doesn’t improve our lot, but His words instruct us concerning what to do to improve our lot. What does worrying do but give us a headache? What actually changes when we worry except our emotional state? What does worry do except drain our energy and cause us to procrastinate? We often think about the people and the things we love, so why worry as if we love it. Worrying does nothing that is worthy of our love. Conversely, His words do nothing but give us reasons to love them. If we are going to love, then let us choose to love that which is worthy of our love. Let us choose to love His word.

His words are worthy of my love
