I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob – Psalm 132:4-5

Those who put their trust in Christ become dwelling places for God through the Holy Spirit. Therefore, to find a dwelling place for God to live, refers to drawing people to God so that they may accept His Son. We must not forget the Great Commission – to make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We must not forget that God’s heart is for people. He does not want anyone to remain lost but to be saved. The Psalmist purposed in his heart to find a dwelling place for the Lord in his city. We should follow his example and look for opportunities to bring someone to Christ. This is the greatest love you can show those around you.

For the Lord has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling place – Psalm 132:13

God uses physical things to teach us spiritual principles (see Romans 1:20). As examples, Zion refers to Israel, Israel means prince with God, and Jerusalem means city of peace. When we accept Christ, we are grafted into God’s family. We become royalty and we become princes with God. As a collective, we are a congregation who live with the Prince of Peace (Christ). God can only dwell in a holy place, therefore for God to dwell in Zion means that God is dwelling within us, who have been made holy. Our holiness comes when we accept what Jesus has done, as it causes our sins to be taken away, thereby making us a habitable place for the Holy Spirit to dwell. As believers, God has chosen to dwell with us. Hallelujah! What a privilege! What an honor! It is not because of our own doing but because of Christ. We are chosen to benefit from the awesome work of Christ. You can rejoice because He has chosen you, a part of Zion, as His dwelling place.

A wise man is once quoted as saying: Do not be so busy trying to understand the root that you fail to capture the fruit. While it is perfectly okay to ask, ‘why is it this way’, we should not forget to ask ‘how can we benefit from the way it is’. There are many things we do not fully understand; there are many things that are just too profound for us. These include how a simple prayer leads to eternal salvation, how faith saves the sick, or how miracles occur! But just because we may not be able to explain these things does not mean we shouldn’t position ourselves to benefit from them through faith and prayer. God is the author of the universe. He is the One who determines how things work. If He has said it, we should just believe it and position ourselves to benefit from it. Don’t be so haughty as to ignore what you can’t explain. Don’t allow your intellect to be a hindrance to experience the divine love of God.      

I don’t have to understand a thing to benefit from it
