Daily Devotional: May 31 – Super Success

Let all be put to shame who serve carved images, who boast of idols – Psalm 97:7

Those who do not serve and worship God do not carry the strength of God within them and therefore solely rely on their own strength. Though they may do well based on the force of their own effort, it either comes at a terrible cost, or it is only a matter of time before things go awry. Look into the lives of those who have achieved anything noteworthy outside of God and you will see lop-sided success. Either marriages have gone astray, moral code has eroded, or friendships have disappeared. But with God in us, we inherit supernatural ability to prosper. So long as we humble ourselves before God and walk in His way, we are guaranteed success over time without the sad and sorrowful life that accompanies those who prosper without God. To be clear, this does not mean we won’t go through hard times, it just means that those hard times do not define us but only serve to refine us. While shame follows those who succeed without God, those who follow God can anticipate salvation from the worries of this world with their success.

Anything that takes my focus off God is an idol that puts me to shame
