Daily Devotional: August 4 – Blessed or Cursed

You rebuke the proud—the cursed, who stray from Your commandments – Psalm 119:21

In today’s culture, people often say that they are proud and wear it as a badge of honor. But nowhere in the bible will you see the word proud being used in a positive way. If we are proud, it is because we think we have accomplished something in our own strength. But those who are humble understand that it is God who gives the strength (power) to accomplish anything. Humble people are not proud but are pleased! They are pleased that they were able to accomplish though Christ who strengthened them as they followed God’s will and way. Humble people give glory to God, but proud people are always hunting for glory and will do anything to be praised. It is not good to be proud as it leads us to take command instead of following His commands. Ultimately, those who are humble are empowered to succeed (blessed) by God. While any success that is empowered by God comes with no sorrow, any success that is achieved outside of God comes with failure in other areas of life – it comes with a curse.

God empowers me to succeed in a way that does not lead to sorrow
