Sing to the Lord, bless His name; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day – Psalm 96:2
In the New King James Version, the title of Psalm 96 is ‘A Song of Praise to God Coming in Judgement’. When we think of judgement, normally we think of punishment or something negative. It is common to hear people say to others, ‘don’t judge me’. But what is judgement? A judgement is simply a decision. We can sing and dance because God has decided (judged) concerning us. He made the decision to send Christ to the world to save us – taking away the wages of our sin (death) so we may live in freedom. This is why we can sing of the judgement of God instead of being afraid of His judgement. He judged Jesus on our behalf, so we no longer need to live in fear. Furthermore, He sees us through the lens of our imperfections but through the lens of Christ’s perfection so that we are judged not on the basis of the law but on the basis of our faith. If we think about it, we find that you and I have many good reasons to sing and dance and bless His name.
I can sing and dance because God no longer looks at me through the lens of my faults but through the sacrifice of Jesus
I like the lightbulb moment on this commentary.
I can sing and dance because of God looking at me through the lens of Jesus’ sacrifice and not my imperfections.
This is indeed freeing and a reason to rejoice.
