Daily Devotional: September 15 – Too Much Grinding

It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep – Psalm 127:2

There are those who subscribe to grinding. To grind has the connotation of friction. It gives the connotation of pushing through resistance and doing whatever it takes to progress, even if it is at the expense of our health and a balanced life. The Psalmist warns us against grinding or toiling away and neglecting the things that are important. It’s time to stop and re-evaluate should our work cause us to lose sleep and quality time with family. It is time to re-evaluate when work robs us of building rich connections and friendships with people. What’s the point of achieving all that we want if we have sacrificed our health, our children, and our marriage to get there! The bible says that God’s blessings make us rich without any sorrows (Proverbs 10:22). In all our drive and ambition, may we never lose the ambition to have true riches rather than riches that pass away.

I will not allow the grind to steal my life
