Daily Devotional: September 18 – Grace is Sufficient

Many a time they have afflicted me from my youth; yet they have not prevailed against me – Psalm 129:2

The nation of Israel has had enemies from the time of its inception, yet those enemies were unable to prevail against it. The nation of Israel may have asked God many times for those enemies to be destroyed but that did not happen. In our lives, the enemies that God allows to stay are there to foster an increased dependency on Him. Apostle Paul famously prayed for God to remove his ‘thorn in the flesh’. Yet, God responded that His grace is sufficient for him. Like the nation of Israel and Apostle Paul, we may not be able to get rid of that which afflicts us, but whatever it is does not have to rule or ruin our lives. His grace is sufficient to fulfill His plans for our lives despite our circumstances. Remember, if God does not take it away from you, then you don’t need its absence to fulfill to your destiny.

My affliction does not have to define me

Daily Devotional: September 17 – Happy and Well

When you eat the labor of your hands, you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you – Psalm 128:2

It is possible to eat the labor of our hands and yet be unhappy and unwell. This is what happens to those who sacrifice too much to be rich or to live the lifestyle that they desire. We don’t have to follow the way of the world. We can eat the labor of our hands and be happy and healthy – we can eat our cake and have it too. This type of life is possible in Christ. He guides us concerning the best way to go and the best path to take to reach the goals and desires that He has for us. Involving Him means we do not have to live with regrets, wishing we could turn back the hand of time. If you are looking for happiness and wellness, then look no further than Christ. Remember, achievement without the fulfilment that comes from following Christ’s purpose leads to emptiness.

Happiness and wellness are found in my surrender to Christ

Daily Devotional: September 16 – Keep Trying

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward – Psalm 127:3

A gift is freely given but a reward is something that takes effort. Isaac was the reward for Abraham and Sarah’s faithful action. The bible tells us that Abraham did not consider that Sarah’s womb was dead but took the action necessary for Sarah to conceive. Furthermore, that the fruit of the womb is a reward tells us that it is no shame if conception does not come easily. God wants us to know that persistent, faithful action may be required in this fallen world. For some, the action is just trying the natural way for years. For others, it may mean leveraging the technologies available to be able to conceive. It is not a taboo to take faithful action to conceive. If God has given you a promise of children, then you should open yourself to all the options He has made available, so you may receive the reward of your faithful action. This also applies to everything you are trying to birth in your life! Only discipline of action produces destiny.

I won’t give up on God’s promise
