Daily Devotional: September 9 – Relationship Ark

Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul – Psalm 124:4

A study of the bible shows that water represents words. Words can cut deeply and go right to our soul if we do not have a defense. Sometimes, those words can come out of nowhere like a flash flood that tries to overwhelm and drown us. Other times, those words are continuous like a stream – they do their damage over time and slowly but surely cut through out heart. The defense that protects us against false words is the truth of the word of God. Developing a strong relationship with God enables Him to bring His words to the forefront of our minds when under attack. Failure to develop a strong connection with Him leaves us vulnerable. Remember Noah’s ark? The ark was a type of Christ. It is Christ who saved Noah and his family from the flood. When we build our relationship with God, we are building a type of an ark that makes us float above the flood of damaging words that proceed from people’s mouth.

I can’t stop the flood, but I can build a boat that protects me
