Daily Devotional: June 11 – Destitute, Not Despised

He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, and shall not despise their prayer – Psalm 102:17

Sometimes, we justify our inaction towards destitute people by saying that they are simply living out the consequences of their own actions. Sometimes, we find ourselves being more concerned with judging them for being destitute rather than being concerned with their state. And then at times, we excuse our inaction by claiming that if we helped, one destitute person, then others will come, and we can’t help them all. In contrast to man, God’s ears are always open to the cry of the destitute and He is always trying to motivate the heart of man to help those who are in such a state. Brethren, we are God’s hands and feet. When God sends a destitute person to us, it is because His heart is to reach and help that person. We shouldn’t concern ourselves as to why the person is in such a state but rather concern ourselves with what God wants to do through us for the person. God wants us to be the answer to the cry of the destitute. Do not despise their prayer.

I will find ways to be God’s answer to the cry of the destitute
