Daily Devotional: June 14 – Ongoing Escape

He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities – Psalm 103:10

What would happen if God dealt with us according to our sins? Before answering, consider that the wages of any sin is death. Therefore, if your answer is not death no matter how miniscule your sin, then you are being partial to yourself. As humans, we tend to use scales to weigh sin. Furthermore, we tend to weigh sin based on the sin’s consequence to ourselves or our loved ones. Yet this is not how God weights sin; God weights sin against only one standard – spotlessness. Oh, that we would never forget that we are recipients of God’s great mercy who overlooks our filth because of the His Son’s sacrifice. Oh, that we too would be merciful to others just as God has been merciful to us. Only when we realize how much we have been forgiven will we be quick to forgive others. When was the last time you thanked God for your ongoing escape from the punishment that you deserve. His forgiveness towards you is not a one-time occurrence but ongoing and ever-present.

I will show mercy just as I have been shown great mercy
