Daily Devotional: September 19 – Extend Grace

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? – Psalm 130:3

Sometimes we think about people we disagree with and judge them in our heart. We consider ourselves right while we consider others wrong. We label people who support a political party and think of them as evil. In doing these things, we forget that we are in no position to judge others; we forget that we too are no good compared to a good God. Jesus said to the rich young ruler that only God is good (Matthew 19:17), therefore, we are not good in ourselves but simply enjoying the goodness of God in our lives. He is merciful and compassionate towards us and forgives our iniquities. As such, it is pointless to point the finger at others since this would be akin to the pot (us) calling the kettle (others) black. This would be hypocrisy! Instead of keeping an account of wrongdoing, we should extend the same grace to others that God extends to us.

will extend the grace and mercy God extends to me to others
