Daily Devotional: September 14 – Raising Solid Children

Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain – Psalm 127:1

Building a family centered around Christ is like building on solid rock; building a house without the Lord is akin to building a house on sinking sand – though the house may stand for a while, its fate was sealed from the moment the choice was made to build on sand! Today, some parents are preoccupied with getting their kids to soccer practice, ballet practice, music lessons, and so many other extracurricular activities. They want their kids to stay busy and do not want their kids to miss out. If they are not careful, they can become like Martha in the bible. In the busyness, they forget that only one thing is needed – to make sure that their kids are raised in the admonition of the Lord! We should never be too busy to pray together, read the bible together, and go to church together. These foundational disciplines help keep the family strong and hold the family together when the storm comes. In all your building, please make sure that your children do not miss out on the spiritual Rock, which is Christ.

I will build my house on the solid rock of Christ
